Project topic:

Design of high power density AC-DC converter.

An AC-DC power converter is essential for many applications such as on-board chargers for electric vehicles, computing power for data centers, power supplies for Telecom, etc. With the rapid developement of communication technology, cloud computing technology, and electric vehicles, demand for DC sources has increased dramatically. Although the AC-DC power conversion has been a long studied topic, pursue for high efficiency, low cost and high reliability never ends.

The objective of 2016s competition is to build a high power density AC-DC converter. The AC-DC converter should be able to provide a constant output voltage with a limited voltage ripple and appropriate protection functions. It should have universal input voltage and frequency ranges. Also, industry standards for power factor, current harmonics and electromagnetic compatibility should be complied. Latest energy efficiency standard, 80 Plus Titanium, is the target of this competition.
